Fishing Facts
Sea
Trout |
Sea trout are here year round and average
1 to 5 pounds with an occasional
fish up to 8 pounds. |
Snook |
Snook are here March through early December and will
range from 3 to 30 pounds
with most fish in the 6 to15 pound range. They always head for cover when
hooked and must be stopped before you get cut off by the barnacles on the mangroves. |
Redfish |
Redfish are also here
year round and will average between 3 and15
pounds. They will tail during low tide and go back into the mangroves during high
tide. They're a real target for the fly-fisher. |
Grouper |
Gag grouper are here December through June and are targeted in the passes and old fish houses, but I've caught many while fishing for snook and redfish in
the mangroves in the spring. |
Cobia |
Cobia are present February through
July and run from 10 to 70 pounds. They are usually caught under large sting
rays and are usually in less than two feet of water. |
Spanish
Mackerel |
Spanish mackerel are present December through June and will average between 2
and 8 pounds. We catch them both inside and outside of the passes in the same places as spotted
sea trout. They hit like a passing freight train, so hold
on tight! |
Tarpon |
Tarpon are here
April through August and most fish are between 60 and 200 pounds. Boca Grande is in our backyard, but the places to catch tarpon
are the beaches and
backcountry away from the crowds. This is both a fly-fisher's dream and a
bait-fisher's fantasy. |
Jack
Cravelle |
Pound for pound, the best fighting
fish is the Jack Cravelle. They are here 12 months a year and range from 2
to 20 pounds. |
Other catches are tripletail and snapper to be pictured later.
